it would take months and sometimes years for an operation.

What I find interesting is that despite the fact that all levels of Canadian society are fiercely defensive of their universal health care system despite its shortcomings it ignites fear amoungst the haves in the US. To touch it is suicide for any government in Canada. This is a given.
What amazes me is that the US is constantly twisting and writhing with its health care system which suggests it is recognized there are shortcomings and yet the prospects of a system where the country embraces it despite its shortcomings triggers terror and WMD fears. Perhaps an open mind and study of the situation is warranted. Don't fear KLP, like CDNs, if the system isn't good enough for you, you can always buy your way to the front of the line...always...anywhere.
FWIW...my neighbour had a heart transplant ( yes...transplant) 16 years ago. He likes the system. He's a blacksmith. My experience is, I've had emergency hernia and was run through quickly from evaluation to surgery. I had a scare with lung cancer that fortunately turned out to be a non-event and believe me that was expedited big time. NO waiting, from CAT scans to lung scopes etc. I am quite pleased with how I was attended to. FWIW, never was money or insurance an issue or concern. That is one thing in CDN life that people do not sweat. It is an expensive National program I presume but one more reason for loving this great country. I would encourage you to not close your mind to the prospect because "someone said". It is a wonderfully generous, fair and humane gift for citizens of a country to bestow on each other.
