IBD - inflammatory bowel disease.

There are a number of different treatment options available for IBD (Crohn's and UC resp.). Something that the authors of the company PR normally likes to suppress. Each treatment has its advantages and disadvantages. They have one thing in common, though. None provides a cure. I found the following article on the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's website to be quite useful helping to sort out where we stand today. Without that information, it will be even more difficult to sort out what is good and what is not (so good).

As for the differences between SangStat's and Millennium's studies. One significant difference appears to be that Millennium used the most commonly used medication ( an aspirin-like compound known as 5-aminosalicylate (5-ASA)) as placebo, while SangStat seems to have used a true placebo. It is therefore very difficult (if at all) to compare the results from these two studies.
