Hi, Jay, very well said. It is sort of surprised me that how the society as a whole to react to SARS in Taiwan. Under a normal circumanstances, crisis should unite people, not so in Taiwan. so your statement of "it must be close to TeoTwawKi time for the island." must be true<g>

>>The officialdom on the mainland must be pondering why they want to reunite with the Taiwanese:0?<<

My heart agrees with you, but my brain tells me that if we do not reunite Taiwan, we will be ashamed to face our ancestors. Forget those 700 tons (estimated) of gold GuoMinDang took away from Mainland, but can we forget those national treasures sitting in the Palace Museum of Taiwan?

>>Meantime, my guess about SARS is that it is doing much good on the mainland, increasing governmental transparency, media daring, and healthcare budgetary purse. Basically doing for business, economy and government what June 4th 1989 did.<<

I agree. Besides those, SARS also stimulates, believe it or not, the national pride of many Chinese, and unite the people of all backgrounds.

Hi Jay -

Sold some Can roys today, as I think 1) they had a sharp run up and 2) I see some nice opportunites in UTEs.

SOLD all PWI, PVX, about 1/3 NCN, some ERF (1/5) and a little AVNNF, still my favorite.
Nice profits on all.
Sold FCO, a closed end foreign currency hedge, for small profit. I expect dollar not to move much for a while.

Bought -
more SRP at around $5.00, up a few cents now.
Some ELP, a Brazilian power company
More WMB, as it has a long way up to go, has nat. gas + pipelines, and had dropped a little recently
More CNP, - it had dropped recently
A little CRED, a tiny natural gas producer (Speculative)

Both CNP & WMB issued new bonds, appears that stock was shorted ahead of bond issues as somebody's hedge.

Watching SCLN , Sciclone, hoping for it to come down so I can buy more.

I expect equities to do well the next 4-5 days.

Still holding -

Royalty trusts - SJT, lots of AVNNF, lots of ERF & NCN, some PGH
Natural gas E&Ps - CRK, CHK, CRED, ROYL, ECA, XTO.
UTEs/IPP - RRI, WMB, MIR, CNP, SRP, some EP, Some ELP
Misc - NEM, SCLN, OS, PRRDX (tips bonds), JNJ
