Windsock, RE: It has a lot to do with the motivation for many of the people advocating expensing options. The excesses surrounding executive compensation in the corporate scandals has led to a vindictive cry for expensing options in the hope that this will stop option grants to executives. It won't. It will cause the reduction of option grants for mid and lower level employees.

On another level many that don't receive option compensation are jealous of the success of those that do. They want to punish the success of the fortunate high tech employees who have benefited and will benefit again from option compensation in return for their 60 and 70 hour work weeks.

Those two issues are certainly a large part of the hue and cry coming out of Silicon Valley against expensing options, but I don't much basis for either of these beliefs.
