<Under the current program, children can receive 25 to 35 hours a week of intensive in-home therapy until they turn 16. That includes one-on-one attention from therapists who work with the children on skills such as communication and socialization.>

Greenspan and Weider are the Guru's of therapy for Autistic spectrum kids, it's all very labour intensive as you can imagine. It is the most scientifically recognized treatment for autism:

The 'medical' interventions vary widely and reports of fantastic results from one, do little for the next. There may even be multiple causes, and in any case whatever is happening creates a wide array of symptoms and behaviours. Science of the medical community therefore rejects most other treatments despite strong anecdotal evidence supporting many treatments. Pediatricians all over the country tell parents to buck up and that there is little that can be done simply because there is nothing 'proven' to work with clinical trials... of which almost NONE are being done. Quite amazing really.
