"When qualcomm decided to try to send data wirelessly, they entered the realm of networking... "

Qualcomm has been networking wireless data since their birth 15 years ago. Voice came later.

"Intel says to "Unwire" with their Centrino mobile wireless technology and its successors"

If you knew anything about the cellular industry, you would be aware that we have been pushing data products for five years now. Tero and Illmarinen/mobilekid ventured here long before you to predict the adoptation of GPRS and WCDMA taking over the world powered by bluetooth.

Five years.

Has the demand been embraced to the point where a data-only network deployment can stay out of bankruptcy?

"that's the new reality"

The reality is Intel is trying to build interest for their Centrino line by showing fantasy scenarios about computing far from any coffee or fast food hotspots or Manhattan phonebooth.

If demand was already there, would they need to dump millions in advertising? Why is SBC afraid to follow Verizon's lead?

You have been spamming us with technology that lacks demand to justify risking the cost of its deployment. Ultimately, I don't care if you decided to recede back to the WiThreads to discuss it amongst your followers or if you spontaneously caught on fire.

There lacks a visible demand for data nor an acceptable method to offer anything but hotspot coverage outside of 2.5 or 3G situations. Worse, there is no indication anyone will leave their cellphone at home to entrust their communications to VoWiWhatever outside of a hospital.

Its like watching a TV movie demonstrating Irridium sat phones working indoors.
