This whole media deregulation thing began with Nixon who was pissed at those mean reporters who exposed his criminal behavior. Notice how radio has degenerated into two basic forms: all music and sleaze, or talk radio which mostly features conservative hate-mongers. That's because they killed the "Fairness Doctrine" which forced broadcasters to carry different points of view. Hence we get the cheapest possible programming generated by huge conglomerates aimed at the dumbest demographics. That's radio today. Now they're trying to do the same for TV. How about this: Rupert Murdoch buys up all three of the network affiliate TV stations in your town, then buys the newspaper. The radio stations of course, are probably owned by Clear Channel Communications. Now they put the squeeze on any other owners who are left in the market. The Murdoch paper endlessly promotes the Murdoch TV stations, and of course there would be lots of cross promotion with the Clear Channel owned radio stations. And on and on..... (In the meantime, Murdoch continues to whore after major media outlets in China, yes China. He even married a Communist Chinese media maven to help his cause with Bejing.)
