John, why do you think the early Wi-Fi players died on the vine? Ricochet had basically unlimited funds available to it and a paying customer base and yet failed. Many others have followed its path. If as you say, the pure-play companies are not public yet, based on the failure rate that VC's expect on new ventures, we must assume that most of them will also fail.

Put it down to my own ignorance, but I just don't get it. I see Wi-Fi as a great and compelling technology but I just don't see where it encroaches on ubiquitous and (relatively) high speed wireless access. I just cannot see the how the hot spot business plan makes anybody any real money. Rumor has it that Boingo is a black hole with very poor revenues although I have not been able to confirm that.
