Rite Aid's finances are a mess. It's hard to even get a factor to take them now (sell the receivable). There is only room for two of the three major drug chains at the most, and CVS and Walgreens are far better positioned and financed than Rite Aid.

All three of these drug chains have been expanding as if they're going to be the last ones left on the block. That can't happen, and it won't.

Finally, Walmart is exploring a neighborhood drug store concept. Rite Aid is a bloated mess compared to what Walmart could do in that area. Walmart needs to continue to grow, and they should eventually dominate the retail grocery and drug business if their past success is any indicator of future success.
