<<I think he's right that more and more Americans are simply coming to the conclusion that trying to appease Arab states is a mug's game; the Arabs are blaming us & Israel for a mess of their own making.>>

That's a pretty broad sweeping statement Nadine.....there's plenty of material out there to back you up and there's also plenty to refute it! What I'm seeing is that the American people are being "educated" to believe what you say is true. The media blitz is working, just as it did before the invasion of Iraq.

As for being a mess of their own making.....you can find whole shelves of books written by greater minds than ourselves that again will corroborate and also refute your statement. Who's lying and who's telling the truth????? Depends what side of the fence you're on! Bottom line is innocent people are being slaughtered because of the "truth" and "lies".

My point??? I don't know......it's just very frustrating reading about this stuff and trying to make sense of it :-(
There's so much hatred and injustice on both sides....so sad.

How, when he gives a real-world example for each alternative?

Because these supposed "real-world examples" are ridiculous one-sided caricatures, oversimplified to the point of total irrelevance. The same could be said of the absurd out-of-context snippets of middle east "history" that you insist on posting now and again, no matter how many times their inadequacy and shallowness are pointed out.

If you only look at one side of the picture, everything seems clear. If you value clarity over reality, that's the way to go.
