This coming from a self-described atheist?

I am not an atheist, and I NEVER said I was.

So, tell me, Hawk - Have you misunderstood something, or are you deliberately lying? Got link?

As someone who does not believe in "god", or anything that resembles a "hereafter", and who does not believe she will collect some heavenly "reward" in exchange for sacrificing her life, I find it interesting that you question this. What genetic purpose does it serve the human species except to eliminate self-destructive DNA, to commit suicide for some religious or ideological cause?

That's only because your worldview is so limited you can only think of two reasons why someone would accept to kill themselves in war:
(1) Promise of heaven
(2) Improvement of the gene pool

Example: Japanese kamikazes. Were they lured by "promise of heaven", or were they trying to "improve the gene pool"?

Or is there PERHAPS another possible reason why people might accept their death in war, which you have NOT covered in your little analysis of the situation?

Religion and spirtual belief is an irrational concept from the point of view of someone like yourself, who limits her perception of the world to 3 dimensions that can be actually described and experienced.

What are you talking about?

No wait. I don't want to know.

I am flattered by your interest in yours truly, but rather uninterested in this conversation which seems to focus on me.

This is especially strange:
But for those who accept the possibility of a "supernatural deity", perhaps existing in other dimensions you seem willing to discount, the logic of the existence of "god" cannot be ignored

If you think there is any such logic, post it. If not, please spare me this drivel. "Logic of the existence of god cannot be ignored", indeed...

Hint: "Logic" is NOT "I think there are other dimensions, and you cannot prove there are not beings living there, so my logic says God exists".

There are philosophers who have tackled this issue of the existence of God. Do read a bit into the subject.
