Thanks for clarifying. It may be helpful to keep in mind that new technologies are NEW and that is why John or anyone else probably can not point to PAST performance or profitability to make a case for WiFi. Just like QCOM, ERICY or NOK investors in 1995 couldn't state the historical commercial performance of CDMA to justify their investments (remember the WSJ article entitled "Jacob's Patter"?). Having said that, with the appearance of more competitors and a sluggish business environment, the old adage, "past performance may not be indicative of future results" may very well describe near term QCOM share performance in the ever changing wireless industry and global economy. If the total CDMA market size was still growing in leaps (no pun intended) and bounds (with sufficient resources available for upgrades and build-outs), then it might be a different story.
