A friend of mine told me today he may be going to Iraq. He was a deputy sheriff and did under cover work when rented out to the state and feds. He sent his bono fides to the state department and they called him today. Told him to get a passport.

Qualifications, retired from police work less than 3 years. Duties are training Iraqi police. Pay $100k for one year, no taxes.

But much of the turmoil we saw over the past several weeks just should not have been permitted to happen to the extent that it did...

I just don't know how much of it was preventable, Hawk. Who would forsee that the Iraqis would rise up and steal themselves blind, not just the palaces, which was understandable, but every public building including schools and hospitals? Remember, this is the first time a regime has been conquered in the Internet age, with the cameras of a 24/7 news cycle running, and the war was so quick the reporters and viewer were both still used to the standards of peacetime. Regime change is always messy and disorderly, but none of the present viewers have any other regime change to compare it to. Compared to the aftermath of WWII in Germany, it's still a picnic in the park.

That's what they get paid to do at the Pentagon, Nadine.. To predict and anticipate as many potential scenarios as possible.

I actually have, somewhere on this cluttered hard drive, a pre-war article, coming from a leading conservative writer, predicting widespread looting. I'll see if I can't dig it up.

They can't say they weren't warned.
