Rick, this is exactly what generally does seem to happen, though:

"I can understand how if a moderator arbitrarily deletes certain posters or deletes posters for whimsical reasons or because a poster is posting views that the moderator doesn't want to hear, that many would be angry or irritated or frustrated with this."

No, not on every moderated board. But on a substantial percentage of them, IMO.

"I don't know how long the moderated board feature has been around on SI. Perhaps someone can recall when it was introduced and by whom."

I think that the original moderated board was MDD - Market Direction Discussion. And it was the most rediculous and embarassing example of improper moderation. If you were bullish on the market when the moderator was bearish, or vice-versa, you were moderated-out. There seems to have been an easing there, as I see that I have access again, and I assume that others who were banned from there do as well.

"So I am a little puzzled why the sudden flap about moderated boards is occurring now. Can you enlighten me on this question?"

I presume it is because of the acquisition of SI by iHub. On SI, moderated boards are the exception, not the rule. On iHub, aren't all boards moderated?
