The Problem Is All Of These Schemes For The Government Helping

have a lot of appeal. For example:

"what's wrong with the government stabilizing the stock market?"

"If we are in a slump what's wrong with the Fed keeping long term interest rates down"

"Deflation is a killer your not saying the Fed should not do anything about it?"

"Of course the Fed and government should work with the big banks to prevent failures" and so on.

Maybe they should and maybe the shouldn't but what clearly should be the case is there should be a clearer disclosure of the implications of their doing so and in a democracy the elective government should decide, not an elite cadre of politically insulated central bankers with their own agenda.

This congress rejected non-taxation of dividends because it was represented that the benefits would not be distributed in a way consistent with the desire of the majority. Most of the Feds interventions result in the allocation of benefits in this same way but are not subject to the democratic process.
