Hmmm... I thought that authority had been imposed from inside in Iraq.. namely through the Baathist party and Saddam's cronies..

I meant, outside the individual, not outside the country.

But Japan is very similiar in that manner, where honor is paramount. And we didn't see widescale looting in Japan..


I'm not familiar with exactly how the Japanese behaved in the aftermath of WWII. But I know how they behaved in China. There's a Japanese saying, "a man abroad is a man without neighbors" meaning, it's the neighbors who keep a man in line.
