Marty, I'm glad I procrastinated before replying because I see you got much advice from others. Why not buy a Windows XP upgrade CD and do a fresh install? The home version can be had for <$90 now. Who needs the Compaq drivers anyway? Does Compaq still dedicate a disk partition to system restore files? They used to do that and it annoyed me a few years back because that partition took 1 GB of the 4 GB available. On that computer I did a clean install of Win98 before I sold it. As for knowing what temp files can safely be deleted: if you use Norton Clean Sweep to monitor installations, then that program will also help you decide what to remove when you uninstall. [it also makes a backup of the program being uninstalled, I think] Your neighbor :)
