One theory that I find intriguing is that Saddam was merely pretending to have CBW (chemical and biological weapons) for the deterrent effect.

Sort of like putting a fake burglar alarm sign and panel in your house. Much cheaper than the real thing and probably works about as well unless you have a real breakin.

I know someone who has that - it makes a lot of noise if you set it off but it doesn't really signal the police. I set if off by mistake when I was in the house alone and it fooled me! I almost had a heart attack.

<<The whole "there are no WMDs" argument borders on the frivolous. The evidence is overwhelming that Saddam had them, the fact that they can't be found notwithstanding>>

This is an excellent example of the duplicitous nature of rationalisation among the Bush supporters. I guess now it's frivolous that the main reason for the imminent danger posed to our National Security didn't exist at all. If this situation was taking place with Clinton in control you'd be screaming blue murder.....you know it and I know it!

What's even more amusing about your post is that you open up by saying how unimportant it is NOW about the wmd's then you follow that up with 4 points to try and corroborate their existense. If it's such a "frivolous" point why are you still trying to make a case for them!!

Also, it seems that you can freely accept being lied to by the people you think so highly of. Your objectivity on these matters is questionable to say the least.

This is obviously not over yet but it's looking more and more like Blix was right after all. Someone posted an article here during the week by Friedman (one of this administration's darlings) who stated that we were basically at war with the Flinstones!!

Imminent threat due to weapons of mass destruction and links to Al-Qaeda were the "reasons" for the danger posed by Iraq....we're 0 for 2 on the validity of both. The link between us and the international community is growing wider by the day but what the heck?!?!? Might makes right.....right?!?!? Hell, we've got Spain, Portugal, Poland et al with us.....who needs "old Europe"??? Those stinkin' Russians and Chinese are just as bad!! The damage being done to our reputation by the Neo-colonialists is simply incredible...what a shame!

<< The whole line of discussion is simply ludicrous.>>

We submitted "evidence" to the international community to support our case for war. They questioned it and as the days roll by it becomes more clear why this was the case. If we don't come up with wmd's and credible links to Al-Qaeda this administration's legacy will be one of lies and deceit and unacceptable damage to hard worked for links with our friends and allies. It's only just beginning.....like it or not, this dog is gonna hunt!

MON.

It would be useful politically to find some, but its more important to get the whole story. Its the information on their development and use thats most useful. If they are practical, easily made, and available to Terrorists, we may have to make masks and protective garb available to all city residents at a huge cost.
We want the records and will find them.
Were they tested somehow before being destroyed and what were the results.?
Since the mobile labs found were capable of making WMD's we could assume that a certain type of WMD was deemed useful and potent. What was it they were designed to produce ?
Saddam had plenty, what happened to them. Was it safe to bury them?. More importantly did any go to Syria
or Iran?
What were the common ingredients used and what country provided them via what route?
Which were the more effective ones and therefore the ones we should most defend against?
Was smallpox on their list? And if so maybe we should inoculate everyone
Are there any left hidden in Iraq for looters to find someday and let loose or sell?

The many inspectors now in Iraq are hot on the info trail and will get the answers useful to our defenses against Terrorism and permit better use of money available.
