Price of gasoline will take care of the size of a car.

Well, there's always the European Socialist Approach - tax the price of gasoline astronomically, as yet another honey pot to feed voracious government coffers and armies of government workers.

Somehow, I'd prefer awareness on the part of the public what a crock these gas guzzling SUVs in particular are (they are notably a cynical end run around passenger car mileage and safety standards), and awareness on the part of the public of just what our gas guzzling cars are really costing us in terms of our dependence on Mideast oil.

Many people have this false idea that a "big" SUV is somehow safer for their family, when this is a simple falsehood. These vehicles are not particularly safe because they were designed expressly to get around vehicle passenger car safety standards.

I don't think bringing up this long term downward trend in vehicle mileage and the indirect harm it is doing to Americans is a shot at Bush in particular because every damn administration we've had in this 22 year time frame has shared in the blame. The statistics themselves are a simple statement of fact, which can be backed up by visiting the EPA web site.
