One would assume you would be able to understand the inherent humour, at least by looking at the smiley that immediately came after that remark.

I'm not a mind reader Zonder..

If you want to use sarcasm in your responses, it might be nice to use a " ;) ", <wink> or at least indicate that you're merely expressing sarcasm...

My condolences, if that exchange suggests to you that the latter person is an atheist.

For your information, I am not an atheist, and I find atheism to be as much of a dogma as belief in God, since there is no proof that He does not exist, either.

Then you believe in some form of supernatural (extra-dimensional) deity? Or you're agnostic?

I don't know what an "adherent of science" is, except that it sounds like you think "science" is a religion of sorts, something to believe in, something to adhere to. Whatever.

No... Actually I believe religion is the often irrational means by which people attempt to explain events and experiences which can not easily be explained by the current level of scientific knowledge existent at the time.

Just as eclipses of the sun used to be thought of, by priests, to be a curse, or sign of heavenly displeasure, much of the current religious beliefs we know have will someday (I pray) be revealed in a manner in which we can understand them..

And that includes "God" being an extra-dimensional entity which created the universe, programmed with physical laws. A universe of three known and proven dimensions, and potentially even more, in which "it" often intervenes... You see, I find far too much order and logic in the patterns of the universe for it to have just spontaneously generated itself from the chaos of sub-atomic particles and wave functions. There is some sense of order that binds them together and governs their interactions.

Again.. IMO, Science reveals "God's" creation, whatever particular form that deity takes for individuals.. I believe that instinctively mankind has a supernatual sense of an entity higher than themselves. We just can't quite figure out what kind of entity that is and how it interfaces and brings meaning and substance to our lives.

Not that I understand why you are so curious about what I think on the subject.

Because religious and intellectual belief systems lie at the basis of what motivates mankind.. The war we're currently engaged is a combination of religious, cultural, demographic, and strategic influences..

Know what motivates someone and you find commonalities, or at least be able to indentify sources for the differences you may have with one another.

Personally, I don't see why you keep your beliefs such a secret.. It would to avoid mis-understandings like the one you state we just had..
