Women's NCAA softball .....

..... I have rarely seen anything as exciting as the UCLA stamina in coming out of the loser's bracket to take that national championship on Memorial Day in Oklahoma City.

The raw emotion displayed throughout the weekend as UCLA's seniors tried to avoid being the only senior class not to win a national championship in 29 years was inspiring to the core. One after other, each of those women brushed off their errors to be heros.

The no-hitter to win the title in extra innings was one of the most spectacular sporting events I've ever seen. But to get to that game, UCLA had to overcome the nation's finest pitcher, Cat Osterman of Texas, the night before. They did so with two outs in the bottom of the final inning with the stands littered with 14 placards painted "K."

The emotion showed by the Texas women at their devastating loss was heartfelt and made me ache as I thought of the beauty of the upcoming championship game between UCLA and defending champion California. It also made me want to pull for Cat Osterman to come back year and take it all back to Austin.

Men's sports in the United States are a symbol of everything that has gone wrong this country. Money, steroids, rap, and entitlement.

I'm looking forward to next year's Women's College World Series much moreso than to this fall's "World Series."

I'd vote for Tairia Mims, UCLA's third baseman, over George W. Bush any day of the week. Something tells me the woman has more class.
