Many Many folks talked to us as Americans! I was surprised....and only one was anti- Bush....That was a surprise as well.

Hi,
I only have a minute then off again. Your surprise is surprising only to you and other Americans. The country (east and west) does not hate Americans. We chose not to go into Iraq without UN sanction. Thats it thats all. The American tourists around here in the east would encounter no animosity either. What we do dislike is being made out a bad guy for not going into the latest US military venture. We were there in Iran and salvaged your embassy personell, we were there in Bosnia with you, we were there in Iraq in 91 with you. We supported you in the WTC disaster and we were there in Afghanistan with you and now we are derided for choosing to see Iraq '03 differently from you. That makes our lifelong friendship and support disposable?????? Americans are welcome here. Are we welcome there?

In either the Times Colonist, or the National Post in the last few days, there was an article about the
Medical crisis in Canada...Lack of medical professionals, and too many people wanting/demanding
more and more services, etc. I am not clear on one thing...Is it against Canadian law now, or is it
being proposed...that Canadians CAN NOT go to other countries and spend their own funds for
medical procedures....?

I've never heard of the Times Colonist (must be a local rag) but the National Post and The Globe and Mail are the National newspapers. The National Post is a recent one and struggles. The G&M has been around forever and I believe its the largest.
Canadians can go anywhere ( outside Canada) for medical treatment on their own coin. There is no law against it and it is not being proposed. Like the medical situation in the US, CDNs have their own problems with healthcare and demand etc. but presently, unlike the US their is no groundswell movement afoot to redo the entire situation as I understand is happening in the US with regards to medicare or whatever its called.

There is a shortage of Doctors here and one of the problems is that they are enticed into the US by huge earnings but I understand the US system is struggling with high costs also. It may be that like Canada, it will be discovered that there is a limit to the amount of money that can be thrown at the system. Of course, the weathy needs will always be comfortably met.

Gotta go.

p.s. Did the population that you encountered appear to be robust and happy or were they gray and lethargic in a morass of socialistic despondency as the US right would have us believe?
