Germany is at about 4% wind in power production, trend on the rise. Also photovoltaics, even if it is pretty darn expensive at the moment - but it is cost-effective in some cases like street or highway signs etc. In my home town they discovered hot water at about 1600 m and now all the big consumers (house blocks, the town hall, town swimming pool) are getting converted. I would never EVER think of this possible, but it takes some thinking and some risk taking (and some tax money as well). As Germans say:"Auch Kleintier macht Mist" - even small animals make S*t -. It adds up eventually.
