I don't really see that it's a big thing knowing who's running the site.. I've been along for the ride with 2 or 3 owners now and have no complaints.. and really don't give a flying .. who owns it..
I guess maybe I just don't care, or feel I need to know.. Just like I don't know who owns the place that hosts my web site.. or who manages the local branch of TW where I pay my monthly cable TV and Internet service payments.
Also, don't see where just because I'm a customer, I deserve to know everything the people I shop at plan to do. In many cases it's non of my farkin business..
Why should SI or any similar service tell all? Would seem to me that would make it easier for competitors to copy or new fly by nights to imitate..
F.

Jon,

"....An announcement on the home page would have done just fine. A short blurb and a link on the home page would have done just fine. A PM would have been best, because it insures that each user will eventually see it,..."

The "home page" solution might have worked for you (and many others), but it certainly wouldn't have worked for me. I would find such announcement much faster if it were posted on this thread. I went to the home page earlier today for probably the first time in about a year. I am sure there are others who also don't regularly visit the home page.

I can appreciate your opinion on how it should have been done. However, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me. I admit that for various reasons it came as no surprise. In fact, I had speculated on it happening just the week before it actually happened.

More importantly, since I don't know all the circumstances surrounding the transaction, I would not feel comfortable criticizing or pointing fingers.

In an earlier message, Bob, as I recall it, mentioned that the timing of the INSP PR was unexpected and led to the exchange of posts announcing the sale/purchase. I don't remember his specific wording and since the search function isn't working, I can't find it. :)

It appears that at this point, you feel "harm" has already been done BUT "they" can still go down the right path. Perhaps, you think the longer it takes to make a "formal" announcement, the more "damage" is done?

I dare say there are probably more users concerned about the slowness of the system (which I haven't experienced), loss of search function, and assorted other problems than they are with who owns the site. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Bob has stated his priorities. I accept that.

All IMO, of course.

Bill

Edit: Oops, I see Bob "spoke up" while I was typing this message.
