The problems in schools today (where there are problems) are much more than just a product of a "lack of discipline".

I have total control in my classroom and never raise my voice. Bad teachers have lost control of their classrooms, and I would like to see the bad teachers remediated or eliminated- and I would like to see excellent people hired. Of course as Bill says, the market sets the price for teachers, and the price right now, compared to other professions requiring 5 years of college, and beaucoup tests for proficiency, is crap. So you WILL get what you are willing to pay for, in the main. When you want well run classrooms, and really excellent teachers, pay for them. Until then I think it is disingenuous of you to complain.
