I did... There was enough heat generated with the machine I was using to discolor the carpet. Looked like someone branded the Micron 386 footprint...

I run my PC at home on a carpeted surface and I don't think it has caused any problems for me but its only 650mhz.

Mine is on carpeted floor.. No problem..

If you are worried about it, you could get molded plastic blocks at PC supplies store.. Kind of like book ends but a lot studier so you can put your tower on it.. Not only it provides support but also lifts the tower about 3/4 inch of the carpet.. should not cost more then 3-5 bucks..
