Your retail prattle and the food fight over SI ownership made me wonder about this whole ownership disclosure issue. Imagine, you buy 30 items at the grocery store, most if not all major national brands you know and "trust".

Who owns those brands? Are they the same owners as last year or five years ago? Did your favorite product change when the brand owner changed? Did they post a notice in the cereal aisle when your bran flakes were sold to another conglomerate?

How about the media we read, watch and listen. How many people know who owns their favorite stations or newspapers? Do they know if the ownership changed in the last 5-10 years (it probably did)? I'm sure PRs go out when the deals happen, but does anyone really notice?

Ditto with cars - it may say it's a GM model, but where was it made? More correctly, how many different countries made the parts that go into your "American" car? Will GM tell you?

Our lives are filled with products and services we care about and rely on. Who owns them doesn't seem to make a damn bit of difference as long as our favorite brands don't change for the worse.

JMHO.
