Eastman will install approximately 14,000 OptiPlex(tm) desktops and the new Latitude(tm) D-Family notebooks in its facilities in more than 30 countries. Dell Services will migrate Eastman's existing hard drive image -- which includes the operating system, drivers, and customized software applications stored on a hard disk drive -- to the refreshed Dell platform. This seamless hardware and software transition is performed in the factory to help reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and improve system deployment efficiency. Originally founded in 1920 to supply basic photographic chemicals for Eastman Kodak Company, Eastman Chemical Company became an independent, publicly owned company in 1994 and manufactures and markets more than 1,200 chemical, fiber and plastic products worldwide. Eastman is a world leader in the efficient, low-cost manufacture of basic chemicals for countless consumer products such as artificial sweeteners, bleach activators in laundry detergent, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals and medical devices. In addition to client products, Eastman is also standardized on Dell PowerEdge(tm) servers. "Across our business and in all of our facilities, Dell has enabled us to transform our technology lifecycle management process from expensive and lengthy to economical, timely and manageable," said Roger Mowen, Sr. Vice President, Eastman Chemical Company Developing Businesses and Corporate Strategy. "This is particularly important during tough economic times when businesses of all sizes are focused on reducing TCO." Eastman has refreshed its desktop computers every three years since 1996. "Customers such as Eastman are choosing a more disciplined approach to technology lifecycle management to maximize ROI," said Joe Marengi, senior vice president of Dell Americas. "Eastman's refreshed IT infrastructure will enable them to easily manage their technology transitions, avoid over-investment, and stay current in today's evolving technology environment."
