Sorrow isn't as much an entity as it is a quality or an aspect of other entities.

Since the possibility of energy being an entity of its own has not been explored, why not give it a go?

Energy as separate then its forms... It strikes me as a rather odd idea. It seems to be adding an extra layer of complexity to the system for no scientific or even logical reason. If it was separate it might also have other forms that are as different from one another as infra red radiation is from sound, or it could be one unified thing. Could what we be considered energy be separated from the "true energy". If so would the true energy have any effect on a system without the sound, heat, light, ect? If it is totally undetectable, even by its indirect effects, and if it will never actually be detected by any means then it can be reasonably argued that it should be ignored. The only way it would become an important consideration is if it could act independently of its expressions (heat, light sound ect.) or if a change in the "true energy" could change the effect of the expression, that was not explainable without the assumption of some unseen "true energy".
