[addendum] Ray, the sound falls off fairly quickly w/ distance so it's kinda relative to that. The jet engine number I found before I posted that must have been at some distance, since this chart I found shows that 140dB SPL is equal to the loudness of a jet engine at takeoff from 25 feet away.

As I search around a bit, I see a fair amount of inconsistency in the numbers for loudness. In any case, 140dB SPL at 1 meter is really, really, really, loud.
