I think it is a tribute to your critical intelligence that you have such complexities of outlook. Plus, let's face it, it is a relief to have good people in charge, when the chips are down. Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Powell are my kind of people.

It is true that even I am more libertarian (small "l") than most Republicans, and I do not anticipate a great degree of devolution to the states any time soon. Of course, we have not had a solid conservative majority in the Congress yet.........

It is funny CB how we all gravitated from different parts of the spectrum to the neocon view. Goldwater had an important role to play here for some old line conservatives that wound up in the neocon camp, if not as neocons. Maybe cheney, rummy, reagan, fit that group. So what do we all have in common--a sense of right and wrong, a moral compass whether religious or not, a splash of libertarianism, dissilusion with the welfare state, an affinity or at least an acceptance of capitalism as the worst system except for all the others, a creativity in dealing with economic issues, and most importantly a post cold war view of the world with america not shirking its responsibilities and/or accepting appeasement as good policy. The alternative is daschle, sharpton, kerry, et al and their legions of class warriors and appeasement minded folks. Mike
