As a paid "lifer" on SI and "grandfathered" on iHub, I can only say that I am not going to worry about it until the time comes. However, I can certainly understand and respect Bob's position on the matter.

I honestly believe Bob's analogy with software licensing is an appropriate one. In addition, without sufficient revenue to support SI, we could lose it altogether. It seems that was the path that we were on before with the prior ownership. I see this not only as a chance to save SI, but an opportunity to restore it to its former glory. If this requires additional fees to accomplish, so be it. As long as my life time membership is honored, I accept that. When the time comes, I will decide whether or not a new feature is "value added" enough for me to pay for it. If not, I won't.

JMHO, of course. :)

I'm one of the grandfather SI members. If I understand Bob correctly, the grandfather members will never have to pay fees for the same level of services they are receiving currently.

Of course I would love to have it all for free forever, I also understand that there is a business side to operating SI. In order for SI to survive, it must make a profit. If that means that premium services will require an extra charge for grandfather members, I have no problem with that. If I can keep the level of services I have now for life, that is a great deal--the type you don't run into very often. If the premium services are something I would use a lot, I will pay for them. If not, I can keep my basic service for free.

It sounds to me like Bob is trying to do the honorable thing, while, at the same time, keeping his business a going concern.
