cable vs phone an anecdotal note concerning me ... SBC has called me three times this year promoting DSL and each time the price has dropped a tad Cox Cable is my cable and internet provider now BUT I rented (unable to purchase cause they wouldn't sell one) a modem for the first eighteen months or so and then --- BIG promotion ---- I could BUY the dang thing for a hundred bucks instead of renting it for ten a month ... so I bot it and then six months later they went UP on the internet rate to what it was BEFORE including the rental .. and then a few months later the rate went UP on regular cable access and now they're talking about UP again .... and one HAS to have tv cable to have internet .. and SBC is starting to promote a new program with wireless, normal phone, longdistance, and internet for what seems to be a pretty fair price ... now .. I know this is of precious little interest to lotsa folks, but my opinion of SBC is that ... while they're in business to make money off ME, I get a relatively fair deal and that is MY experience as a customer for nearly half a century ... the cable company has NEVER given me a fair/good deal .... so ... and I'm NOT alone in this (from again, anecdotal experience) as several of my friends are/have moved back to phone and Direct TV or DishTV ... and ... when I turned 62 last month .. Mar gave me a Direct TV or Dish TV (whichever I pick and have installed) and, I'm peering closely into which and when and how .... so .. never say never ..... I feel much better btw .... t
