Intentionally or not, you just described most of the American public right now: The hardest people to reach are paranoid people who actually do have some enemies. Trying to untangle their fears from their ignorance is a helluva job which, unfortunately, the media and the politicians mostly avoid. The pols on both sides of the aisle are too busy feeding the partisan paranoia so they can get (re) elected next time around. The media just want a few ratings points so corporate HQ won't can their butt in the next round of layoffs.
