Yup, mutual assured destruction is the only way to maintain peace..If Iraq did have the "bomb" we would never have invaded.

But really someone needs to educate these idiots... Subject 37386

Andy, We're allowed to have wmds and other folks aren't because we're Americans and we smell good. At least I do. Some of you folks are kinda ripe. <g>

We want the Middle East wmd free outside of Israel, Pakistan, India and some other folks who don't pay any attention to what we want.

If you had a bomb, you wouldn't like it. There's no place to keep the damned thing. Store it in the baby's room and the old lady yaps at you all night long. Radioactive this. Cancer that. What if he accidentally hits the firing code? Blah, blah, blah. It makes for a nice conversation piece in the living room, especially if you don't want any return visitors. Then the damned terrorists break in, steal your water heater, and you're taking a cold shower in the morning. Nah, these things are white elephants. <g>

the people I talked to at the time that supported this -- all thought 911 justified the "new stance"

911 was bad. No doubt about it. But it doesn't justify 1/100 of the government spending, erosion of freedoms or flag-waving that it has prompted.

Why is the bomb ok in some hands and not in others -- well ... we're right and those other folks aren't <g>

Even if you bought the idea that Sadam was mfring wmd -- there wasn't any credible discussion about how he would get them here ... there was in fact little or no danger whatsoever.

The joke is -- we are no less vulnerable to any attack of the kind (not exact same) of 911 attack. There has to be a jazillion low tech ways to kill thousands of people.

911 was preventable and some blame falls on the government, but a big part falls on the airlines, IMO. This wasn't the first time a plane was hijacked for no other reason than to kill the occupants -- including the hijacker --

There are folks out there that believe there was a conspiracy of some kind -- I find that hard to believe, but it is more than a tad queer that 3 planes reached their targets. If there wasn't a conspiracy -- then there was gross negligence and dereliction of duty -- in the airline and our government.

What I disdain most about the current administration is the continued "politics of fear" -- first scare everyone and then scare everyone some more -- wave a few flags and you can do anything you want. It shouldn't be this way. The electorate and the media are completely asleep or just don't care.
