sandintoes, Just to illustrate how ignorant the students are that failed the FCAT, a group of them were holding picket signs on a street corner in protest. One of the signs said, "shame on Busch". She must have liked her beer more than spelling class. Another sign said, "band the FCAT". Now if someone doesn't know the difference between "band", and "ban", they don't deserve to graduate grade school, much less high school. Most of these teenagers were white, but the black, and hispanic, mothers are up in arms about their children that failed too. Since less than 2% of the students tested failed, there is no excuse for any protests. There are some dumb kids, smart kids, and in between kids. There are just some politicians, or local leaders, that are looking for any excuse to cry "racism". If a black person slipped on a wet sidewalk, they would blame it on racism.

“There’s something deeper here,” said Siplin. “I want to see the test suspended until we can figure out why these kids are flunking.”

I guess the democrats would say the education system is under funded. g We need more teachers, smaller class sizes (you would think they are smaller now since the kids don't attend class).

UFB. Weren't standardized tests supposed to be the cure for failing school systems by forcing them to TEACH something? I seem to recall that.

Now it turns out that those who don't give a d**n don't learn anything and flunk. Surprise.

"Culturally biased". A large part of what is taught in schools is culture. Things seemingly as objective and unbiased as physics and math have cultural assumptions about their worth behind them. If you live in a primitive societyh, you are taught how to make a hole in the ground with a stick to put a seed into. If you live in a more advanced society, you may learn Maxwell's equations and Shakespeare. But all that is taught is influenced by and part of a culture.

The FCAT is a valid test, there are plenty of minority students who passed with high scores... these protesters are those who want to promote kids just so they won't get their feelings hurt... well, that's too bad... W's policy of leaving no child behind is what the FCAT is all about, it doesn't mean to pass a kid just because he's a year older... it means not to promote some stupid kid when he still can't read or write...
