Begala: Which is Worse: Clinton's Lie or Bush's?

Top Democratic Party strategist Paul Begala said Thursday that ex-President
Clinton's lies about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky were far less
egregious than President Bush's decision to lead America into war based on
the threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

Alluding to the U.S.'s Iraq war casualties, Begala told radio host Don
Imus, "I'm pretty damn angry about these 170 families that are never going
to see their daddy again or their son again because they were sent over
there to die in the most noble cause you can imagine: for their country."

Then, referring to the failure so far of the U.S. to uncover substantial
stockpiles of Iraqi WMDs, the former Clinton campaign aide said, "And their
country owes it to [those families] to find out why in the world we were so
badly misinformed."

Invoking a comparison that could help New York Sen. Hillary Clinton should
she decide to enter the 2004 presidential race, Begala asked, "Which is
worse: lying about a girlfriend or lying about a war?"

"There aren't 169 people dead over Monica Lewinsky," the top Democrat
complained.

Pounding away at the same argument, Begala insisted, "The president must
never, never lie - even about who he's sleeping with - but certainly about
sending men to die."
