The Dead End on this path, is when the countries and organizations we threaten, really do have WMD. That day is not far off. There is nothing, no practical method that doesn't involve immense risks, we can do, to keep Iran and N. Korea from getting nukes, in the near future. And then Syria, and Hamas, and Hezbollah, and Al Queda. Everyone on the spaceship is getting their own grenades. Terrorism is easy to stop. All you have to do is to be 100 times as brutal as your opponent, something that is easily within our technical capabilities. We'll probably never stoop to that level but the possibility exists that some day a brutal attack could create the appropriate conditions for a truly horrific response on our part that would be supported by the majority of the populace. A nuclear bomb or even a massive dirty bomb exploded in NY or DC could mean then end of much of the ME as we know it or the end of NK. Do you honestly think that the Islamowackos and the nutball NKs would have it any other way? I don't. The IWs, for instance, cannot accept Jews in the ME. Period. Full stop. End of story. The NKs act like a cult but so far are more bark than bite. We'll see about them. Our support of the Israelis means that IW terror will hit us just like it has hit the Israelis. The only solution is to turn our back on the Israelis, something I'm not prepared to do because it will invite the next rationalization for terror--culture, religion, the sins of the Crusaders, or whatever it is the IWs' fervid imagination will concoct next. No, we're unfortunately at war. The IWs know it. A very few of us acknowledge this state of affairs. The only worthwhile question is how to fight it. In the meantime, a walled ghetto sounds good to me.
