Now we are having wage deflation at the lower and middle income levels. It is time for expense control to hit top management.

Did you know that the number of taxpayers with incomes over a million dollars a year dropped by 18% from 2000 to 2001? Also, the numbers over two million dropped by 24% and those over ten million dropped by 37%.

Meanwhile, those in the $100k to $1 mil range grew by 2.3%, the $30-100k group grew by 2.9%, and the under $30k group shrank by 1%.

And if we break from Democratic party standards and count the $100-200k people in the broad "middle class", then that group ($30k to $200k - above "poor" & below "rich") grew by 3.1%.

Of course, these trends might have changed in 2002 and 1st half of 2003, but it's interesting data, isn't it? Seems the "middle class" is swelling as people from both ends of the spectrum move toward the middle.
