"I don't think that most users will pay extra for "cool" features."

Were that the case, it would already be seen through I-Hub — that it would already be a losing venture, and there would be no need to try it on a second time. Market realities indicate otherwise.

"The other problem that I see is that many of the features that he is proposing for "premium" status are things that are just plain good design. Example: being able to read an arbitrary number of headers at a time. The problem I see is that you may be sending the wrong message by asking users to pay extra to fix stuff that is arguably broken."

View-by-10 is a good minimal element, already existing, far exceeding the previously existing view-by-1. View-by-50 is nifty for those who want to pay for it. That is not a "good/bad design" issue. It is an economically driven feature. "Old" SI or "current" RB bears further evidence towards this.

"Ditto for search. Search is part of the base functionality for any web site with any substantial content."

Have you seen any post where Bob says he's charging for search? That's a rather egregious implication, eh?

Jon,

You'll soon find out that if you see Bob as just a programmer that thinks inside the box, you've got him pegged absolutely wrong.

Bob's a freak of nature that wears many hats well, and can innovate with the best of 'em.

You really should back off and let him prove himself. SI is going to rock once we get this database/code converted over into something we can manipulate easily. All good things come with time.
