When I was a small child growing up in North Dakota, we had a Ding-Dong School 45 rpm record player. One of the records was a little story about a kid who planted a carrot seed. The story progressed punctuated by two musical refrains: "I'll water it, I'll pull the weeds, carrots grow from carrot seeds" and "Na na it won't come up, it won't come up, it won't come up. Na na it won't come up, your carrot won't come up."

Roughly 2-3 years ago, about the time the market started to tank along with the level of civil discourse on SI, I had a particularly boring job welding all day, day in and day out. Those two refrains popped up into my head after almost 50 years and would not go away. It was actually a little annoying after the first day or so, but I had a lot of time under a hood to deal with, so I spent some of it visiting very old childhood memories and thinking about the simple lesson on that record.

That dumb old record popped into my head again today right after I ran my usual daily portfolio up date, and I had to smile. Today, my investment portfolio set a new all time high, besting my previous high by $176.41. I'm posting this to affirm that carrots grow from carrot seeds, and also in the hopes that by posting it I will avoid having those two little ditties rattle around in my brain for the next month.
