Freedom of misunderstanding is the 11 commandment and the 19th amendment to the constitution. Freedom to misquote, or the journalistic privilege, is the oft defended subtext and right flowing therefrom, that the framers of the constitution are believed to have intended.

Article 19 reads.

No free person is constrained to believe any particular thing about any communication or proclamation in print or said orally by anyone, nor has the obligation to repeat, proclaim or disseminate the contents of that proclamation or assertion verbatim, but may at their choosing refute it, or reassert its meaning in any way they choose, so much as to say they may assert it to say or mean how they may choose to see it. No law may be passed that abridges the right to interpret and proclaim freely the substance and meaning of the printed or spoken word or any rumour that can be attributed to hidden sources.

The 11th commandment says, "Thou shalt read the word and go forth and repeat it to your advantage, so that it means to you and whom you address what most glorifies your just cause."

American Media has taken these god given rights to heart and profit immensely from it. It is called defending the right of rule by propaganda, defending the american way, freedom of the press, building image, setting an example for children, defending motherhood, and selling newspapers. It is also called yellow journalism, slander, Hearst Enterprises, misquoting, lying, dirty politics, libel, defamation, republicanism, democratic policy, pandering, rabble rousing, naziism, fascism, and the newspaper business.
