It might be a good idea to look at some of the systems he has been "In Charge of" to see how they are performing.

"Who runs LiveNet?
Jon Tara is a software engineer and the originator of the San Diego BayCam. " -- from: live.net

Not at all sure that's our Jon, but seems like it.

FWIW, the site [http://www.live.net/sandiego ] does not load properly using my OSX Explorer 5.2.2. Works fine in Netscape 7.01.

I don't mind him riding my ass a bit. Someone's gotta do it and if it weren't for geeks making sure I stay on my toes, I could get complacent and lazy. Maybe. It does occasionally get to be a bit much, though. Especially when, even if several hours have elapsed between the riding posts, I'm reading them nearly back-to-back. I snapped at him and am fine now until I've had enough again. <g>

And, though he could've been a wee bit nicer about the siliconinvestor.com DNS entry, I'm glad he pointed it out. It's one of seemingly millions of details that can fall through the cracks, and that one certainly did. No telling when it would've been caught if he hadn't pointed it out. And the end result of that little missed detail is that anyone who wasn't using the www part of the address has probably thought SI has been down for the past couple of days.

Bob, I think he is a wanna-be systems person

I don't know Jon from boo. I don't see why you want to personalize this discussion. I think Jon is being a tad unrealistic given the demands of the transition to a new ISP. If you don't agree with his ideas, express that. You seem to be saying that it's more important for ideas or suggestions to come from someone with the proper experience. As you've provided no evidence to support the "wanna-be" supposition, it makes more sense to discuss the merits of the suggestion.

This poster on the EMC thread agrees with you Joe about the good job Bob is doing. AND Gus did not get his shorts in a twist when his profile was gone for awhile. Guess they just are not critical people. I find that if someone likes to criticize a lot, they will always find something wrong with a person, even if it is Mother Teresa.

I'm guessing that this is another example of the "suits" not quite understanding the difficulty and complexity of integrating disparate systems. I can't tell you how many times I've had a non-technical "suit" tell me: "You just move a couple of servers around, redirect a URL or two and it's done. It's not rocket science!" If only it were that simple. I'm sure SI Bob (or whatever the guy's name is) and his crew had a couple of sleepless nights and he's still cleaning up the mess. I've done this kind of thing dozens of times and it's never easy. In my opinion they did a pretty good job all things considered.
