Penn wrote in the Times that following the October letter, "I was hit by a tidal wave of media misrepresentation, and even accusations of treason."

Seems like he deserved it. jdn

White lies are good. If the message is effective in swaying public perception of the deception and Sean Penn continues to publish similar messages, he will be done in, in some sort of a tragic accident. My guess is he will live long because things are going back to normal (i.e. no war and conflict) and the news media will make it look that way. The public is just too apathetic to national politics beyond local impact. As for international politics, that's left for Administration and Congress to handle. Domestic and local issues are more important as they impact directly to one's jobs and earnings. All lies are noise and they can be construed as "white" lies. It all points out to an easy GW reelection win in 2004.
