Saddam ruling Persia would be quite a shock to anyone in Tehran, given that he is an Arab and they are not.

The idea of America remaking the Middle East is assuming Marx Brothers proportions rapidly. Duck Soup, anyone?

Greg,

Re: except Saddam would still be sitting pretty in Persia.

Ahem... are you taking your geography lessons from George Bush? Persia, for your information, is the country now called Iran. You'll recall the 100,000s of Persians who were attaching Saddam and his Mesopotamians during the 1980's.

I don't want to confuse you with the Sunnis, Shias, Assyrians, Kurds, Christian Arabs and Turkomen who were also involved, so please forget I mentioned them.

The Persian Saddam, eh? No wonder the Europeans scoff at los tontos útiles de Norteamérica .
