I would caution you against making your own color changes, though. Get an artist experienced in web design to do it for you

Already suggested the best of local talent, in post one to new improved SiHuBob. Doesn't seem to be hearin' it. Probably figures since he's picking up UNIX like it's a hot dog at the races, the Color Theory can't be all that hard either.

Bob, trust me on this, can't do it with a back hoe. (g)

I take back my comment on "browser safe colors" probably not being important any more.

At one time, when most people had 256 or 16 colors, it was important to select colors from a limited palette of "browser safe colors" that wouldn't shift as the browser attempted to show more colors than the hardware was capable of.

Obviously, that is no longer a problem for most people.

There are still colors that should be avoided, though, and, as with the anti-aliasing issue, not immediately obvious.

There are specific colors that do not render well using different displays. They need to be avoided. An experienced web artist will know. (Or should know.)

At minimum, test your designs on multiple monitors. What looks good on YOUR monitor, adjusted to YOUR preferences, may not look good to others.

Does it look good on an LCD? Does it look good on an older, fading CRT? Does it look good under different types of lighting? (Flourescent, incandescent, daylight?)

If your are going to fiddle with images, at least pick up a copy of Creating Killer Web Sites, and learn the basics.
