Fatty,

I read your post and responses...I always say the same thing too...who are all these people buying these expensive houses? Only I'm wondering who's buying the $1,000,000 houses.

But the replies you got make sense, because I just bought a $500k house here in Los Angeles and I'm on a similar budget...it can be done, however we certainly don't go on major vacations although we eat well ;)

Here in L.A. though, you can't expect to get a good public school for less than the neighborhood a $750,000 house will buy...and then you drive 2 hours to work.

$2500 for "other living expenses" is easily doable, unless you're a 2-SUV/BMW family and have car payments of $1500 as well...
