The Bible doesn't teach that you have to be perfect to please God, in fact one of the most important lessons to be learned from the Bible is that you can make lots of mistakes and still be used by God for great things. David is probably the best example of this, he was an adulterer and effectively a murderer, yet God said he was a man after His own heart. The apostles didn't live perfect lives, but they were used tremendously of God and they were blessed. Additionally, the answer is yes, God promises and desires earthly riches for his people. In the Bible, God says, "Try me, see if I will not open the windows of Heaven and pour you out a blessing which you cannot contain." There is a clear plan for prosperity laid out in the Bible, and it is not just for riches in Heaven. The reason for this is clear: It takes money to spread the Gospel throughout the world. Believers are not intended to prosper so that they can store up wealth for themselves, they are intended to prosper so that they can further the ministry. At the same time, God would have his people live well, not in excess, but certainly in comfort, with nice houses that are well built, cars that are reliable, nice clothes, etc. I have as little use for "religion" as you do. There is a huge difference between what "religion" teaches and what God says in the Bible. I believe that President Bush is sincere in his beliefs and intentions. As to those who surround him, I don't have a studied opinion. I think Colin Powell is extremely honorable. I'm not as sure about Dick Cheney, there are some things related to Halliburton that I'm not sold on. Carl
