Michael Lind's Book review in "The Nation" on Racial mixing has an interesting conclusion . . . Yep, I read it sometime back. Lind's work interests me but he's all over the lot. I wasn't particularly struck by this review. As for the conclusion, I had forgotten that. Hmmm. At any rate, my first take on that issue is that so long as race remains a significant social sorting basis, it probably needs to remain in the census. If and when the legacy of discrimination against blacks is washed out of the system, then it will be time. But we have a ways yet to go on that road. And we are taking some backward steps on the road now.
