Have been using IB for about 9 months.. Absolutely, no complaints.. No Ameritrade account yet.. Here is my response to some one who had asked me about commission costs between the two..

Both at interactive brokers and ameritrade each order is treated on it's own even if it is the same security you are buying..

If you buy 3000 JDSU, at ameritrade the cost would be 10.99.. If you have another order for JDSU during the day, no matter the number of shares, you will pay another 10.99.. So at Ameritrade, more shares in an order, cheaper is your cost base..

At interactive brokers, a 3k JDSU order will cost you 17.50.. IB is better if you are buying smaller number of shares since first 500 shares will cost .01 per share and over that you pay .005 per share.. They used to have a minimum 5.00 bucks for commission before but they have done away with that so if you buy 100 shares of anything, cost is 1.00

OT *** RtS, I do have an IRA which I trade at IB and I'm satisfied. My trades are hundreds - not thousands - of shares. They do require a minimum of $10 per month in commissions OR you can pay $10 to get rt quotes. A drawback is you must request one option quote at a time. But you can't beat $1 per contract.
